Living Democracy

Before the ballot box, before the constitution, African communities governed themselves through deliberation, obligation and the ancient disciplines of accountability. Drawing on the Umunna councils of the Igbo, the Kgotla of Botswana, the Indaba of southern Africa and the Igba-boi apprenticeship tradition, Living Democracy builds a complete governance framework from the ward upward - participatory councils, economic institutions, civic formation and the legislation needed to protect it all from capture.
